Tap Dance Facts: History and What Makes It Unique?
April 18, 2017Tap dancing has been around in various forms for hundreds of years. There are many countries that contributed to this unique style of dancing including Africa and Ireland. It is generally a high energy form of dance that can be done solo or in groups. One of the reasons it is good for young children to take tap is that it can help them understand rhythm better and it can also help them appreciate different types of music. This can help them develop a lifelong love of the arts - and that is definitely a good thing!
Although dancing in general implies a fair amount of discipline, tap dancing isn't perceived to be as strict as other forms of dance, such as ballet. That isn't to say that children who start out tap dancing won't move on to other types of dance. Tap dancing can really instill in them a love of dance in general and give them a skill that not many people have.
There's a wide array of moves that are seen in tap dancing. They can be incorporated into almost any type of routine or music. And another great thing about tap is that it can be done with a larger class or can be performed by just one or two dancers. This helps kids learn to be comfortable solo and teaches them how to work with others. In other words, learning to tap dance can incorporate other lifelong lessons.
Tap dancing uses special shoes that create sounds based on the specific moves. Kids generally respond well to tap dance as they can basically use their shoes and bodies to act as drums and enhance the music they're dancing to. They will learn how they can use their feet to create unique sounds.
Kids that take dance from an early age benefit from it in many ways. It is great exercise and good for the cardiovascular system. It helps build muscle and contributes to greater coordination. All of that can lead to them feeling comfortable in their own skin and boost confidence. Tap dancing classes are generally extremely entertaining and help kids burn off some energy while teaching them a unique form of dance.
