Whether you wish to make dance a career or just enjoy it for a fun activity, having expectations of the level of expertise that you wish to obtain will propel you through your learning journey. If you follow the steps below, it will help you set and achieve your dance goals in a timely fashion.
Decide on Short-Term Dance Goals
Your first step in setting goals for dancing is to decide on ones for a short length of time. What do you want to attain in two months for just one example. For these, do not set unreasonable ones since being able to accomplish these will keep you motivated to keep striving to reach your long-term ones, which we mention in the next section.
Contemplate and Set Long-Term Goals for Your Dance Training
Your long-term goals can be a bit more time-consuming to reach, but you should contemplate and set them all the same just as you do with short-term ones. Some of these may take years to accomplish completely.
Be Specific with Your Goals
Whether your goals have to do with certain dances, dance steps, competition level or professional status with the chosen dance, be specific with them. Write down every detail of the goals when you set them.
Include a Deadline for Each Goal
Set a deadline with each goal. For example, by next week you wish to be able to perform 10 fouetté turns in a row.
Post Both Types of Goals Where You Can Refer to Them Each Day
Keep your list of goals handy so you can refer to it whenever you feel the need, even on a daily basis if necessary for motivation. As you progress, you may even alter the goals to better suit your present skill level.
Formulate a Plan to Reach Your Goals
On top of all of the above steps, you need to devise a plan to attain all of your goals. This will include the classes that you need to take, the gear you will need to wear and where you can acquire the right training. We cover the latter in the following section.
